About
UofAZIPS.com launched on February 1, 2006. The site was derived to meet the need for University of Akron Zips athletics news, discussion and information for both alumni and students. The site was designed and developed by Jason Roberts, a 1999 UA graduate, as a way to give back to his alma mater. The number of visitors to UofAZIPS.com each month has grown exponentially. The site had 28 unique visitors the first month it was live and now averages in the thousands.
Dubbed “the home of the next generation of Akron Zips fans”, the site encompasses content that has a graphical appeal and an interactive approach. It’s target audience is the UA fan that is ‘hip’ to modern technology, entertainment and communications.
UofAZIPS.com is the only site on the Internet that regularly provides podcasts (called Roo-Casts) dedicated to the University of Akron Zips athletics. This is one of many samples of content geared towards the next generation. Still, the site was designed to provide an enjoyable experience for people that are not into cutting edge communications and technology.
In addition to a sleek look and cutting edge content, UofAZIPS.com focuses on what the student fan looks for in a fan website. In addition to discussion boards, fans will also find an email newsletter called Z-Mail. A Game Day section provides driving directions, ticket information, venue history and parking information.
UofAZIPS.com is continuously adding new features and content as it strives to meet the needs of the next generation of Akron Zips fans.
